Logins, Logouts & Re-logins

“Manual or Automatic?” is a question that one might consider when working with the IACBOX.
Many of the manual actions revolving around the IACBOX are straightforward, such as a simple login via ticket credentials handed out at the frontdesk.

The focus of this part of the documentation is on automatic actions, where they can be encountered and how they work.

Login Types

Automatic Login can happen in several different ways.

Autologin Devices are defined in the Users/Tickets -> Autologin devices menu of the WebAdmin and are devices that will always be taken online automatically without the need for a captive portal login.

Autologin on a VLAN basis can happen when VLANs have been activated in the Network -> VLANs menu of the WebAdmin.
Besides the regular Ticket based manual logins, the Autologin/no charge mode is available which will automatically log in devices that reach the IACBOX via the specified VLAN.

Logout Types

Just as logins, logouts can also happen automatically.

  • Logout via Idle Timeout
  • Logout due to Ticket Limits

Logout via Idle Timeout happens whenever a device ceases to make requests within the IACBOX’s Surf-LAN either by physically leaving the area or by other means (e.g. Activating Flight-Mode). Devices logged off via Idle Timeout will receive a RememberMe Token that serves the automatic re-login.

Logout due to Ticket Limits happens, as the name implies, due to certain defined limits being reached (Time Credit, Data Limit, Valid-to Date reached).
As soon as one of the ticket’s limits as defined by the Ticket Template has been reached it will be logged out and the corresponding ticket will be revoked. This can be seen in the Users/Tickets -> Overview menu of the WebAdmin

Re-login

Even for devices that have logged in manually, an automatic re-login is possible.
At the moment a device is logged out via Idle Timeout a RememberMe Token is created which will remind the IACBOX to take this specific device online upon its return to the network.

Global Idle Timeout settings can be found in the Users/Tickets -> Ticket defaults menu of the WebAdmin as well as here Ticket defaults.
Besides setting a global default Idle Timeout it is also possible to define an Idle Timeout per Ticket Template

When dealing a lot with Idle Timeout it is also important to consider the Remember me Timeout which defines for how long a RememberMe Token will be stored on the IACBOX. This setting can be found in the Settings -> General menu of the WebAdmin and is per-default set to 3 days.

Roaming

There are two types of roaming on the IACBOX.

  • Seamless Roaming
  • Roaming within VLANs

Seamless Roaming allows a valid online user to roam seamless between interfaces on the same end device (e.g. switching from wired to wireless). Roaming within VLANs allows a valid online user to roam between different VLANs.
